Pierrot has a rock on his back. He doesn't know why he has to carry it, but as far back as he can remember, the rock has always been there, on his back.
And he is by no means the only one to do so. With his two brothers Pi and Po, Pierrot lives in a peaceful kingdom where everybody carries a rock on the back. Anyway that is how things go until the day the princess falls ill : only the magic herb on the other side of the river can keep her in life...
Storyline
Pierrot and his elder brothers Pi and Po lived in a kingdom where everyone carried a rock on the back. Life was peaceful there until the day the princess fell ill. To save her, there was no other way than crossing the river and picking the magic herb for her remedy. It was a real trouble for the whole kingdom, because of the rock on people's back.
Pi and Po tried crossing the river, unfortunately they didn't succeed. But thanks to their experience, Pierrot found a way to reach the goal. Moreover, his adventure inspired people a new way of getting along with their rock ; life in the kingdom was altogether changed - for the better.
What the story teaches
Through the artist's eye, grasp an Asian feel in a fantastic world of water, light and sky. Make use of past experiences.
Author
Chun-Liang YEH, traveller through different cultures, was born in Taiwan and has studied in Britain and France, where he lives now. He worked in a parisian practice of architecture before devoting himself to making books on architecture and design. Publisher of picture books for children since 2007, he is also the Chinese translator of the Paradis artificiels of Charles Baudelaire (Taipei, 2007).
Illustrator
Samuel RIBEYRON is the illustrator of the picture book Yllavu (éd. HongFei Cultures) and Les deux maisons (Didier Jeunesse 2004) distinguished by the Chronos prize. As a handyman, he likes telling stories with small puppets set against a well designed background. He works with "Folimage" for animation films including L’hiver de Léon. Inspired by his trips to China and Japan, he carries out various creative projects in southern France.
